Hi Forum team,

I clicked on the link to pay for my BX treasures which just arrived. The link is
https://www.pacificbulbsociety.org/pbsforum/index.php?page=BXpay*
and that gives this error:
"An error has occurred
This article is not available. You may not have permission to see the article, it isn't active, hasn't been approved yet, or simply does not exist."

When I remove the * the link is fine. My guess is some markup messed up the link text.

Thank you,
Gastil

General Discussion / Seed cleaning for the SX
October 10, 2023, 01:24:55 PM
After a several-year hiatus, I finally got around to cleaning some seed and packaging some bulbs for the exchanges. Not a lot of material, but I feel like it puts me back in the game.  :) I know the deadline for seeds to arrive to Jan is not until the 15th but I leave tomorrow.

Seeds sent today:
Merwilla plumbea (very few) wiki link
Freesia laxa subsp. azurea (too many) wiki link
Tropaeolum hookerianum subsp. austropurpureum wiki link
Ixia rapunculoides wiki link
Orthrosanthus multiflorus 'Morning Flag' wiki link
Habranthus robustus (tentative ID) wiki link

After I already taped up the envelope I found another packet I had meant to send so I tucked it just inside the fold. Jan: be on the lookout ;) as it may fall out when you open the envelope.
Lachenalia orchioides ssp. glaucina wiki link

It took awhile to clear a space to work and find my seed-cleaning screens I made back in 2020 but have not used since then. They worked! I also used the tilted, folded paper method David taught me. Each seed has its own character, its own way of cleaning. Some are trivial and some are laborious. But after awhile I got into the rhythm of the process. I wish I'd started sooner. Here are some process pics.

Current Photographs / October 2023 photos
October 02, 2023, 12:22:10 PM
Happy news: my Tropaeolum azureum is alive. It has been at least 2 years since I've seen any top growth evident in its special double-insulated pot. I was certain it was gone and went to re-use its pot. When I dumped out its soil, a fluffy mix of half pumice, there was this healthy dormant tuber over 4 cm diameter. That is about four times the size of the original tuber I purchased from Telos in 2020. My notes show it sprouted in November 2020 and I recall its spectacular bloom in 2021 but not in 2022 nor winter 2023. I know these can take a year off but not two years. It was not for lack of water since we got more rain than average last winter. Here is a photo of the tuber sitting on 1/2 inch wire mesh. The tuber is really only 1.5 inches across, just the photo angle makes it look bigger. This is the top side. I'll add a photo of the bottom side too. And even tho it is not an October photo, I'll include a bloom of this Sleeping Beauty.

I want to learn what I did wrong so we can ease the transition for others.
See attached screenshot.
Something made the text below the link all super-tiny-font.
I did view Preview earlier in the process but not again before posting or I would have caught this I assume.
My guess is something about just pasting a link without properly encoding it has caused the font tiny-if-ication.

Mystery Bulbs / not Notholirion thomsonianna
August 16, 2021, 11:50:40 AM
In 2012 I received item BX316 #6 as Notholirion thomsonianum donated by JMcG.
Today (16 August 2021) I saw the first bloom. Mine is definitely not that species, clear when compared to the wiki:

https://www.pacificbulbsociety.org/pbswiki/index.php/Notholirion#thomsonianum

It is quite lovely and vigorous and even though it is not blue, I like it.
One theory is perhaps some seed volunteered into this pot. The originally planted species may be long gone.
I repotted this in Oct 2020 and I always photograph bulbs when repotting so I can dig up (figuratively) that photo to help identify.
This is why I hesitate to post any bulb or seed photos to the wiki until they are verified in bloom.

PBS Forum Feedback & Help / favicon same as wiki
March 24, 2021, 08:40:26 AM
Hi forum admins,
Could we please have a different favicon for the forum than for the wiki and pbs website?
Because I'm one of those people who have a gazillion browser tabs open so the page titles do not show, only the favicons.
If this is a frivolous request, then disregard.
Thanks guys.

Still not used to forum message format. I guess I do not sign it, right? How will folks know what climate we garden in if we do not sign our posts?

Testing the image upload features.

Hmmm... have not yet figured out how to embed an image in a message. Maybe it is only attachments.
How to give each photo its caption?

I saw David's post about email notifications/echos of forum posts. His post should be in this `new topic` I made just now.

Ah, I see SMF does not use the same markdown as github. Whatever.

I am searching the Help pages on this forum to see if I can figure out the email settings. No, do not jump in and help me. I want to experience this as a newbie on my own, even if the conclusion is that I cannot find the answer. That's data.

I agree with David that we do not want the emails to all look like they are coming from him and we do not want to have folks all pestering him for HowTo.  Given that our pbs list subscribers often cannot figure out that system, they're not going to figure out SMF on their own. And we do not have a Maggie Young. There is only one Maggie. (SRGC forum moderator, for anyone not familiar.)

PBS Forum Feedback & Help / text in German
March 24, 2021, 07:25:18 AM
Some german text appears on the Calendar setup page.
Dodawanie wydarzeń do kalendarza
google translates as
Adding events to the calendar

I am not suggesting we have a calendar, only that we should stick to English since historically PBS has been in English. Sorry if that sounds anglocentric, not meant that way. :)

On that same page, a few of the items are in german, ie
Rejestracja
Wysyłanie wiadomości
Wyszukiwarka
