I received them as 2 year old bulbs from Telos about 5 years ago.

General Discussion / Calochortus kennedyii
May 16, 2023, 07:27:55 AM
Four of my six my Calochortus kennedyii opened yesterday.
Some observations on growing them. We had 22 plus inches of rain this season, and they did quite well, growing on a slight slope in fast draining soil, this is a lot of rain for our area. They may be able to take more water than we think if it drains away rapidly. I grow them in terracotta pots set in the ground filled with 1/2 native sandy loam and 1/2 sand, set outside. The pots keep the soil mix contained, keep the bulbs from moving about, I know where they are and are gopher resistant. I know this is a limited sample, but all four plants opened on the same day, while my other Calochortus spread out there blooming over several weeks.

I think I have figured out that this is a Claytonia gypsophiloides.

Is this a Lewisia leeana. If so it is growing 200 miles south of its range its listed in the Jepson manual.

I would start by finding a copy of Calochortus by Gerritsen and Parsons (WIKI reference) it is full of useful information. Start with species that grow in climates similar to yours and try growing the seedlings out side, depending on the species most Calochortus can take some frost, although I don't know about the Mexican species. This spring I had over 20 species of Calochortus flower, but they are all ones that naturally grow in a climate similar to mine, cool winters and hot dry summers, and they are all grown outside and most are grown in the ground. Start with the local ones and work up from there.

Mystery Bulbs / Bloomeria I D
April 25, 2022, 02:42:08 PM
I have Bloomeira labeled as B. coocea and B. humilis flowering which I cannot tell apart. I have tried keying them with the  Munz and Jepson keys with no success. I know at one time they were considered one species. Any observations on differentiation would be appreciate. Even if they are mislabeled I cannot tell which one they are.
