The word logged is associated with some posts and not with others. What is the significance?

General Discussion / Re: Invasive Bulbs

I don't in any way doubt that they tend to naturalize and become weedy. That doesn't change the fact that mine have not done so. I bought 3 blue and 3 pink and planted them in a clump. I still have 3 blue and 3 pink flowering from early February until May.  Portland  winters tend to be 5-10 degrees colder than what I get. Perhaps the extra winter chill encourages them to proliferate.

I like the forum as it is.  I'm not going anywhere. I'd still like to improve it!

I don't think that  topic headings for special interests will discourage reading other areas of the forum. It doesn't happen on the SRGC forum.  In fact many members post to multiple special headings as well as to the general areas. That would likely be the case with me.
The special interest headings make it easier to tie content from multiple threads on various aspects of as subject together coherently.

I like Diane's idea of having US regional groups small enough that announcements of shows, sales, and chapter activities remains relevant.

Diane,

I planted 6 from Brent and Becky's 3 years ago. I still have 6 flowering faithfully. Perhaps you have a location that encourages their spread.

I was thinking that it might encourage discussion and showing off one's treasures to have separate headings for popular bulb families i.e. Iridaceae, Amarylidaceae, Ranunculaceae, etc.

It seems to be well used on the SRGC forum.

I grow most of my flowering plants, that are not deer resistant, in a 30x75 foot deer fenced area.
I buy 4X 12 foot pieces of hardware cloth and fold up 8 inches along each edge;, to form bulb cages. I plant my non-toxic bulbs in these cages. Most Ranunculaceae do not need this protection

I have deer, occasionally elk, a cougar comes through about once a week; but never bothers people or cats, grey squirrels gophers, moles, mice, raccoons, and opossum.
Also, while not a mammal. I'm very pleased to have a large green gopher snake.

Why do you suppose members are so slow to transition to the Forum from the List?

Here in Oregon, Vinca minor is not listed as invasive,;but, it is very weedy. It is fairly easy to control by vigilant cutting back.

Quote from: Luminita on April 26, 2022, 02:44:06 PM;D ;D ;D  - yes, I was quick to say 52, and did not add ...and jurisdictions..... sorry if that may cause confusion.
DC is not a state, and neither is PuertoRico. I hope you found all the other things were accurate and stood up to scrutiny! ;)
Luminita
In Scripture, when a future event is spoken of as already accomplished, it attests to the certainty of its happening.
Perhaps Luminta was being prophetic [with or without intent]

Quote from: Luminita on April 26, 2022, 08:07:06 AMMartin - good subject,  hopefully informative.

You may know that the definition of native is quite different from one geographical place to another, and as such in MN, one of the 52 states here in the US is this: In Minnesota, plants are considered native if they occurred here at the time of the Public Land
Luiminta,

When you speak of 52 States, are you including DC and Puerto Rico?

I don't grow natives because I think they are preferable to exotics. I grow natives when they fit into my garden plan.
I have a real interest in Ericaceae as a family; and 10 gerera happen to be native to my county; and 1 or 2 other genera are native to the Willamette valley.

The native trees were here before I was and I saw no reason to remove them. The other natives I grow just fit my sense of what looks good together.
