Well, Martin, maybe your potted plant should accompany you to work.

Many South African bulb flowers last only a few hours.  Fortunately there are often new flowers coming on, so there are flowers to admire for several days at least.

Has anyone deliberately searched for ones that lasted longer?

Good!  Have any of those back-crossed seedlings flowered yet?

Quote from: David Pilling on October 13, 2022, 01:30:19 PMI'd add that a million or more UK front gardens have been paved over to provide car parking

Ian Young in Scotland has an interesting garden on his driveway.  Just enough left bare for the car wheels, but a mass of low-growing plants up the middle, and taller ones along each side.

I once tried smoking a few potted seeds in my woodstove that had been burning and was still smoky.  Unfortunely, the fire wasn't completely out and the peat-based compost caught fire.

My granddaughter noticed that a couple of pots of Nerine were different - bigger flowers and two broader leaves.

I assume they are xAmarine, a hybrid between Amaryllis belladonna and a Nerine.

Are they fertile?

What a surprising fruit!  It looks as though the whole stem becomes a fruit.

If you have several photos of each species, the quickest way to have them named would be to have each group of photos as a separate message.  So, all the yellow flowers in one message, with one name, all the white flowers in a second message, and the singles in a third message.

I've never seen a photo with speckled petal bottoms before.

Did you start from a seed or a corm?

My, David. I can tell when I've had frost - the dahlias are dead.  So you have dahlias still blooming for Christmas?

Maybe the term "gardener" has already been used too much, so people need a new term for their hashtags, like #plantdaddy.  I assume getting a hashtag is rather like getting a gmail account - put in your suggested name, it's rejected because someone already has it, try another, and another and another.

My goat died after eating a tiny bit of Kalmia

That reminds me of a scented Asparagus.jpg
one I admired in South Africa.  I don't know which species it is - there are about 120 species growing there.

When you consider how many have spines, it is surprising that we discovered how good one of them is to eat.

Vince,

It would help if you say what country you live in, so readers know whether they can offer you corms.
