Dear All,

it has been a ride - though the team prepared for quite some time, we all knew the first productive weekend would be a steep learning curve - some things went invisible for most of you:

  • a few PNG-graphics were bound to clutter the error log
  • as was a tiny uncaught condition in my Species-BBC-extension
  • there was some access rights trouble when I changed the "Board Member" group from hidden add-on to visible for all (through 4 yellow squares below poster's name) - sorry Jane!

Others were more prominent:

  • disabling font- and fontsize codes to prevent unintended text styling from copy&paste operations
  • allowing non-registered users to view attachments - which of course makes it more difficult to know who's here, as several "guests" in the "Who's online" display shows, but also makes the forum more attractive to random passers-by (and to search engine bots)
  • lots of discussions about image upload technicality

All in all we're really happy how things turned out for now:

  • we're currently approaching 100 registered users, 25 of which already have posted
  • there had been very little moderation work as to "topic discipline", and the cases that happened were more of the "technical attachment trouble"-type
  • there has been absolutely no rudeness or aggression in this forum

Where do we go from here?

  • We'll keep an eye on how topic density evolves and may or may not create a finer subforum structure if it seems fitting
  • Depending on topic- and workload, we may appoint moderators for some areas
  • and of course we want your feedback!

welcome to this new medium for the PBS!

your team
