Hi all,

Many of you are not on Bulbs-L, so I apologize to those who are for this
repeat posting.

Ben Zonneveld at Leiden University has been looking at the nuclear DNA
content of some of the Nerine in my collection. We need independent
samples (fresh leaves) of the following species for comparisons:

Nerine forbesii
Nerine frithii
Nerine gibsonii
N. hesseoides

I have a plant of N. forbesii (not a recognized species) that seems to be
identical in leaf form and in DNA content to plants I received as N.
laticoma. Neither of these two accessions however agrees with the DNA
content of other N. laticoma that Ben had analyzed.

I have N. gibsonii that does not agree with the DNA content of another
gibsonii sample Ben had analyzed.

My N. hesseoides may be N. frithii, but the DNA content seems to be off a
little for frithii.

You can contact Ben at:

I can trade offsets of my N. hesseoides and possibly of my gibsonii later
this year; they are still in active growth at the moment.

We hope you can help us out on this. Please contact Ben if you have fresh
leaf material of the above mentioned species you can send to him.

Regards,
Jim Shields
