Daffodil longevity

Dave Karnstedt, who breeds and grows daffodils, wrote,

I didn't realize that hybrid daffodils had particular longevity problems in 
the ordinary garden, although this problem is what led me to give up on 
tall bearded iris hybrids. Dave's statement makes me wonder if this is why 
I can't keep 'Passionale', which is a beautiful large "pink" daffodil. Are 
there other daffodil cultivars that are known to be short-lived once they 
get out of their coddled nursery lifestyle?
