If lazica is growing well for you I do not think cutting the leaves back before bloom would be a problem. It is my understanding that in the wild they either die back or become less upright so that the leaves are laying on the ground when the flowers emerge. Unfortunately plants taken out of their native environments do not always respond in ways we find more attractive.
