Here in Maryland, we have two traditional pronounciations which almost match
in unseemliness the ones Brian cited: Baltimore is pronounced something like
Balmawr by most of its residents, and Talliafero is pronounced something
like Tolliver.

I've never encountered the name Featherstonehough, but who among us has not
encountered some know-it-all (who also happened to know what he was talking
about!) who was glad to tell us how to pronounce the name of Clematis Mrs.
Cholmondley - and I'm not referring to the position of the accent on the
word Clematis.
