Mystery bulb

Dear Alberto:

Thank you for your nice pictures. One of the clues given about the
Mystery Bulb, was that the leaves sheath the stem. Neither of the
species you kindly sent have this character, nor do they, in my opinion,
curl as much.

Because of this I think we are left with H. armancaes, but this species
has more yellow flowers, H. narcissiflora, but this has narrow green
bands in the flowers, and H. virescens, but this has a greenish hue.
However H. virescens now contains H. pedunculata, which has pure white
flowers, and thus should be considered variable, and it has leaves which
sheath the lower stem. I am, because of this, inclined to think the
Mystery Bulb is H. virescens, and I would say that only by seeing the
actual plant can we identify it. I do not think we are too far off. But
as there are some 30+ species, identification with certitude is not
easy! Thanks again for the photographs. Cheers, John E. Bryan
