I wrote "monocarpic bulb," meaning precisely that, the bulb, not 
"monocarpic species with a bulb." The bulb that flowers, as Jim says, dies. 
If the plant has grown well, offsets remain that will flower in a few 
years. I was aware as I wrote it that "bulb" is loosely used in the other 
sense, but I didn't take the time to discuss the potential ambiguity, and 
now I have to write another message!
