Angelo's comments on saffron cultivation closely follow Mathew's
recommendations in his book, "Crocus". Mathew recommends planting deep
and turning the bulbs every couple of years to distribute the offsets.
I believe he recommends planting as deep as 8 inches.

My Crocus cartwrightianus 'albus' has flowered very well for six to
seven years. Planted in a wet spot with good sunlight. I harvest the
threads and place in a dish and put on top of my cable TV box for a
constant supply of heat and they seem to dry perfectly. I use them for
making a Persian dish "fesijan".

Angelo, what is the name of the saffron liquor produced in Italy?

Arnold
