Two other plants  do that for me:  Erythronium dens-canis and 
Dicentra spectabilis, neither of which I would consider a bit 
thuggish.

Brazen Hussy is spreading more than the above two, though. I bought 
one from Avon in 1989, and it now is a big patch one metre square.
