And Jim McKenney responded: "Jane, I didn't know that. Can you give some
examples?" 

After posting the last message about ranunculaceous plants which produce
only a cotyledon the first year, I remembered that there is an example in
the garden right now: Eranthis hyemalis. 

Are there others?
