Bulb mix curses

Gosh, I'd like to know what Alberto's recommendation was. I have a Hippeastrum papilio which used to bloom twice a year (autumn and spring) and even set seed. Eventually I decided to divide and repot it. Since then it has produced an enormous number of offsets -- the original bulb has filled its new pot with offsets, but it's been over a year since it last bloomed.
