Time travel and ancient plants

Boyce: It is good to hear from you. You know about my
personal interest in Iris. I suspect in every plant
society there are people who have become experts on
certain genera. They may or may not be publishing
papers in scientific journals but their knowledge is
nonetheless profound. What is the criteria for who is
an expert qualified to make these determinations. I
know a number of published premier scientists in Iris
who would not necessarily agree on certain wild
collected plants and would be incapable of determining
cultivars. I guess what I am suggesting is that I
believe in each specialty society there are very
capabale people who could offer sound determinations
and would probably be willing to do so at a minimal
cost. I guess I suspect there are many good experts
available within their realm of competance. But no
matter who acts as an authority there will always be
someone who would question that authority. I suspect
that plant societies contain as many competent
authenticators as the insitutions and they would
probably cost less. Just a thought. Bob Pries.
