In response to Iain Brodie's inquiry, the book "Lilies: A guide for growers and collectors" by Edward Austin McRae (another Scot, but living in the United States for many years) contains a wealth of information on the genus Lilium proper. It was publishsed by Timber Press in 1998 and should still be available from booksellers. I was privileged to assist Eddie McRae in preparing it for publication and was overwhelmed by the depth of his knowledge of lilies and the lily-growing world. The book doesn't touch much on lily allies, except Cardiocrinum. The back issues of the Scottish Rock Garden Club's magazine are a rich source of information on Nomocharis, in particular.
