I made a nice new bed one year heavily amending my clay soil with mushroom compost, purchased by the truckload. No bulbs survived over a year in that bed and most perennials have trouble as well. Later, talking to the head of horticulture at Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati, Ohio, I related this misadventure and he said they buy lots of soil amendments for their plantings, but they always send a sample out for testing before applying it to a bed. AND, they let it sit and age for a year before using as well. Bill Lee Cincinnati, OH **************Feeling the pinch at the grocery store? Make meals for Under $10.
