Sanitizing Bulbs

I can endorse Doug's recommendation as the best single all-round 
insecticide.  Long-term effects on non- targeted organisms seem OK. 
Although bees are at risk, I've used it only sparingly,  (once a year.)  and 
my ground-dwelling bees do not seem to have suffered .
