Michael, I grow all the known Haemanthus species except for H avasmontanus ( which was found only once in 1923 ) and have been to the site near Clanwilliam where H nortieri grows. Your plant is typical of the growth forms you will see in the wild. I have found that H nortieri often makes a smaller bulb very close to the mother plant. The shape of your leaf and the red at the base also fits the description. My opinion - Definitely Haemanthus nortieri Alan Horstmann
