Tubers are a foot or more long!  That is just the bulb part, excluding 
the roots.  They are also difficult to kill of if you have the right 
climate.  Every bit of cane or tuber seems to be happy to keep the 
growing going.

The lilac/pink ones look absolutely gorgeous when in flower against a 
blue sky.  Unfortunately when I still had one and took photos, it was 
not a digital camera yet.
