On September 20 of this year I posted this in response to a query about lilies in the tropics:

"No one has yet mentioned Lilium neilgherrense, the lily with the most southern natural distribution. The Kew List gives the name as L. wallichianum var. neilgherrense.

I've never seen this lily, but ten years ago or so I was only about a day's drive from the Nilgiri Hills and was sooooo tempted to try to find it.

I would like to see this one before i die!"

My guardian angel has been working overtime: a box arrived today with a small bulb of Lilium neilgherrense!
At least two other people who post to this list are also about to receive the same gift. With good luck one of us might have a photo for the wiki in a year or two. I don't think I've ever seen a modern color photograph of this species - a quick look using Google images did not find one.

This is exciting!
