You might want to give Anemone appenina a try too. It is very similar to A. blanda but occurs further west, in the Balkans and Italy, where I have often seen it growing in semi-shade, usually in very stony soil or on roadside banks. I'd therefore second Jane McGary's comment about the importance of drainage.
