As do the Pennsylvania Dutch farmers. I've read that they grow a clump of C.
nudiflorus by the back entrance to the house and urinate on it from time to
time to keep in it good heart. And that large clumps of C. nudiflorus sell at
auction for a surprisingly good price.

The account may be in Brian Mathews' "The Crocus".
