The buds of "Orange Sovereign" are green with a little bit of red when they just reveal by un-folding the two bracteous leaves. The base of the flower, the ovary REMAINS grass-green. Mature bulbs produce 2-3 scapes with 5 often 6 florets each. Leaves strongly KEELED and dark green without further pigmentation The buds of "Red Lion" are in the very first instant (!) almost white when they reveal and the edges of the segments have a dark red lining similar to H.papilio. (I am not kidding) But then the buds become all-the-darker, and the ovary becomes BLACKISH-green. 2 scapes with 4 florets from a mature bulb SELDOM 3 scapes and SELDOM 5 florets per umbel. Leaves rather long and thin, with brownish pigmentation under better light condition.
