Voles are mouse size or even a little smaller. Very short tail, and 
small eyes. Plush coat in grayish brown. Breed at a young age, breed 
frequently, short-lived. Food for hawks, owls, snakes, foxes etc. Big 
population jump right now because good snow cover meant they could 
tunnel around all winter out of sight of the hawks and owls.
