I store all my photos in original sequence, name and form. Only copies, edited or otherwise get renamed, but this searching problem came up a time back and I searched online for an Excel file name conversion. This is the information I sent to a contact, but as far as I know neither he or I have tried it out, so apologies if it is not correct. It assumes you are using a windows system.

Go to the folder you are interested in with windows explorer and type a period into the search box. This will generate a list of every file in that directory. Then ctrl+a to select all and shift+right click -> copy as path, then paste into excel. Then highlight the column and sort into columns with the \ as the delimiter and delete all the path info if you want to and you are left with just the file names. You can then name all your photos in subsequent columns and sort or find at will.

I will get round to trying this type of sorting sometime; maybe.

Spring flower show time here. (UK) Local alpine show yesterday, local horticultural society today, RHS London show Tuesday.
