Query on Hot Water Cylinder

A Hot Water Cyclinder is 5`6"high x1`6" in diameter to take in cold water and with electric elements make hot water for use in the household,most houses in Australian have one,although now days the cylinder is placed on an outside wall.
Our cyclinder is in a cupboard with a small shelf, don`t put anything on the cyclinder only on the shelf, in 3 weeks the seed is starting to sprout,    regards   Max
