FRITILLARIA GRAECA

A surprise this week: after nearly 10 years in a very small pot, one of three originally planted bulbs of F. graeca is putting up a bloom stalk. I bought and planted these bulbs from McClure & Zimmerman in October 2005 at a time when they offered a surprisingly diverse selection of this genus. In 2003 they sent me F. davisii that bloomed the following spring, but this is, I think, the first time for F. graeca although each year it sends up leaves. I've done nothing over the years - never repotted, even - but do move them to dry shade for the summer. Last summer that dry shade was indoors, in a cool basement. Ninth time's the charm?
