Don't I recall striking being something to do with pollen distribution for more fruit?
I had a stray hippeastrum bloom ~8 weeks ago. Noticed another bud just showing this week. Time to clean up the remaining limp leaves and start them off again I think. Not watered for 6 weeks or so.
