Possible new spuria hybrids?

I've tried crosses between I. foetidissima and large hybrid modern Spurias,
but to no avail. Mostly I'm applying foetidissima pollen onto the Spuria
flowers. I've only tried the reciprocal cross a few times. It occurred to
me maybe the pollen tubules are too short so I tried various ways of
slicing the flower and applying the pollen, but still never got any seeds.
I'm still convinced this cross is possible so I'll keep trying, but so far
I've got about 6 years of attempts with nothing to show for it.
