In the fall of 2011 bulbs of Iris winogradowii finally came down in cost enough to be within my reach. I first learned about this plant from Anna Griffiths' book on rock garden plants published in the early 1960s, so I had been waiting for a half century to get my chance. I got six bulbs and they all bloomed in late winter 2012. There was no bloom in 2013, 2014 or 2015 - I don't remember seeing foliage either, although some must have been there. But one of the plants is blooming now: wow! Am I ever happy. Jim McKenneyMontgomery County, Maryland, USA, USDA zone 7, where sly Mother Nature is giving us magnolias and camellias this week, but the weather people say there might be snow this weekend.
