California Peonies

Being new to the propagation of geophytes, I'm a bit wary when it's mentioned that something will grow in DG, but I'll take your word for it.  Given that there is no organic material, do California peonies require fertilizer throughout the year?  If so, is there a particular kind?

Yes, I used to grow Peony californica from seeds in Southern California.
It was quite easy to germinate, but I lost them when I moved to Northern California. They are happy to grow in decomposed granite (dg).  No water is
required during hot and dry summer time.   They started blooming around
Christmas to January in our area.
