Hi George, I have some Paeonia brownii plants grown from seed that I just planted in a pot that was sunk in the earth, the way I start all peony seeds. They came up the spring after I planted them in the summer. I live in Siskiyou County and there are many plants growing at the Living Memorial Sculpture Garden, a fabulous memorial to Veterans, especially ones from the Vietnam War, on Hwy 97 just outside of Weed, CA. There are many more plants growing there than in the surrounding countryside and I collected a few seeds. Our climate freezes during the winter and is hot with little rain in the summer. I am careful not to overwater them though they do seem to enjoy a little more water than they get in the wild. They have not bloomed yet and it has been 2 years since I planted them. I am on a rainier side of the mountain and get more snow. Where they thrive is high desert that freezes in the winter and bakes in the summer. They bloom in late spring, early summer in the wild and the seeds are ready in the hot part of the summer.
