In reply to a query from a member asking when we’ll be getting a new BX Manager and will resume the exchanges, I am replying on the list so that all members will know where we all stand with the current situation regarding the BX/SX. The Board will be meeting to review the position of BX Manager and to see if the position can be made such that the burden is not on one person. Consideration will also be given to establishing some basic procedures and clear policies to guide BX managers now and in the future. As most of you know, this is an extremely important position with PBS. Aside from the fact that it provides a substantial income which we can use for outreach, the Bulb Garden, grants to qualified students, and so forth, the bulb exchange is why many if not most folks join and actively participate. I’ve never belonged to such an active, generous and knowledgeable group! And I’m sure we all want to do our best to keep it that way and to keep our access to incredible plants that we just can’t find or are not available to us in any other way. Please bear in mind that we are rapidly approaching two major national holidays in the U.S. That said, our next board meeting is scheduled for Jan. 21, 2020. I think we all want to have this situation regarding a lack of a BX Manager resolved as quickly as possible, and the plan of board members is to have some decisions made by that meeting. We are actively looking for such a person or persons but at the same time must have some guidelines and policies in place. PLEASE, IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN THIS POSITION, apply directly to a board member. DO NOT REPLY TO THE LIST. I hope this answers the most immediate questions about the situation we find ourselves in. Many of you have written a lot of good practical suggestions that will streamline the exchanges but allow for flexibility and these will all be taken into consideration. In the meantime, Jane McGary and her crew did a terrific job of quickly mailing a lot of seed and bulbs. I hope that you all received at least some of what you requested! You will all hear as soon as we can put together a plan for continuing this most important part of PBS.
