Mosaic virus

Most of the bulbs were discarded, but onlly after a year of studying them. Some varieties actually died, after a few months of decline.None performed as well as before. Some had normal blooms, with striped leaves, some had mottled flowers and striped leaves.I rarely see symptoms during cool weather. During the hottest months of summer in Florida Mosaic shows itsself if the plant has it.I have several Picotee which never showed symptoms. Pappilio never shows symptoms,Some hybrids of papilio don't show symptoms.I don't know if they just don't show it,or if they are immune.

The potted bulbs which I can purchase during "season" (October to January that is) in Germany, these are - contrary to the bare bulbs - mostly infected from Mosaic virus. Which comes to light only when the first leaves are elongating: The manifestation of the mosaic always starts at the tips of the leaves. The growth of the plants is not affected, at least not conspicuously. This season I kept one of these, a "Picasso" and, although the mosaic is conspicuous, it grew vigorously and produced 12 leaves, a big bulb and offsets in abundance. So, as regards your loss, did you mean to indicate "they ceased to grow" or did you simply sacrifice them?

And as regards Uli Urban's question: I have a spontaneous apparition of mosaic in my collection but very rarely, and if so then always on bulbs I purchased, never on a seedling. I can safely exclude that the intense pigmentation, such as shown in the picture from Don Kuonen indicates an infection from Mosaic.
