Hippeastrum leaf problem

Hello Don,

My first idea also was a virus infection but I would not be able to tell which virus. I agree with Hans that the red coloration is due to sun exposure and not a sign of disease. But, Hans, what makes you so sure that the pale segments are NOT virus induced?
My next thought was that a picture of just one leaf is not enough information.
Does this particular plant look diseased in any other way except the leaf mottling? Distorted? Weaker than before? Unwilling to flower? Or with mottled flowers or distorted buds? All this would be indicators of disease or virus but not necessarily proving virus infection. Or is the plant about to go dormant and withdraw substance from the leaf before shedding it? That would be perfectly normal.
For safety reasons I would keep it apart from other plants in order to prevent spreading a possible virus or even throw it away if it is not all too valuable.
Or do you have access to laboratory testing? If you are a serious breeder diseased plants should be identified and removed. I had to learn the hard way that it can be devastating for a collection to keep diseased plants for sentimental reasons....

Bye for today

Uli
