Mosquito Dunks

I have 2 100 litre water butts in my 20' greenhouse. 1 at each end but linked by hose and to a larger butt outside collecting from the gutter. In summer I top-up with water from my garage roof butts, which fortunately are higher in my sloping garden. All are covered with lids but get some debris fromĀ  the gutters so I need to clean out maybe every 2 years or so. Almost never see any bugs. Are yours permanently covered? I just bale out with smallish watering "cans" as needed and put the lid back on. The greenhouse butt lids serve as small working surfaces too when cleaning plants etc. Mainly alpines or bulbs. The greenhouse is split in 2, part frost free (~6C min) part permanently vented for alpines etc. First -1C of the winter last night.

Due to very dry summers the last 2 years I am seriously considering inserting butt connectors in all the 5 downpipes of our house so I can allow it onto the garden or into the soak-aways in the garden by swivelling the connector. Here we get a slight water-board refund if we retain rain water "on-site" rather than it going into the main drainage (sewer) system from the house. Lost a lot of the large herbaceous plants this year. eg. Michealmas Daisies barely flowered this year even with some watering.

Some years ago I visited the garden of a serious Nerine grower. Just normal domestic size greenhouses (2 or 3?) He had a large (concrete?) pond under his bench in one house; full of Frogs when I visited ;-)

Don, that's definitely the easiest way to go, I have to water seedlings
indoors with a pump sprayer and don't have storage outside so the Gnatrol
is what I went with.
