Leo Martin, in discussing the culture of Fritillaria striata, wrote " From Jane's comments referenced above it seems the plants flower and fruit in late fall, around the time of first rains, before the grass has grown enough to overtop them. "It's the flowering in late fall part which caught my attention. Can anyone confirm this? If true, it means my plants will have to be under cover pretty much throughout the year: our summers will be too wet and our winters will be too cold. But I can give it plenty of clay. Jim McKenneyMontgomery County, Maryland, USA, USDA zone7, where the sasanqua camellias are in full bloom.
