Dave I order winter growing plants from Gordon Summerfield each year. I plant seeds immediately because I want to. Why wait if you don’t have to. Provide the necessary light, heat and water etc. For bulbs they are planted immediately and I hydrate them by dampening the soil. The bulbs are small at one or two years of age. I leave them to rest in my greenhouse. Should the bulbs wake up I keep them going as long as possible. Some wake up in the pot, some are waking up in the envelope and others wait till late summer/early fall to awaken. I hope this helps.
