I belive most of comercial bulbs are asimptomatic carriers of virus , when this are transmmited to a more susceptible plant the symptoms show.I used a stripĀ  once to find a virus in one Iris hybrid, the price is about 8 pounds per test and is a small Zip bag with a net inside, a piece of leave placed inside is grated against the net with a mortar, then add a bit of water and dip the strip, in the Green liquid, if the specific antibodies react with the virus proteins two strips appear , like a pregnancy test, one strip means the kit works but the specific virus is not found( may be others with different proteins) .DNA testing can look for virus too.
