Boophone haemanthoides

Mine, in the ground, do usually go dormant by May here in San Diego, earlier if there are no late season rains or light supplemental irrigation (which I feel is beneficial.)   My experience is a single good drenching of bloom size bulbs in late May may enhance likelihood of flowering ... ditto for many other normally Summer dormant SA Amaryllids such as A.belladonna, its hybrids, and Brunsvigia species (about a month before normal flowering.)  For  Boophone haemanthoides, specifically, a little Summer H2O is beneficial, as well, especially if grown in pots, even while dormant.  Move the pots to a shaded area so the bulb and roots don't cook in the hot sun and the normally perennial roots don't die back from desiccation.  I have found young seedlings to 3 or 4 year old specimens can be kept nearly evergreen, if moved to limited morning sun and otherwise bright light and regularly but lightly irrigated.   I theorize this may help direct added energy into growing the bulb and hopefully, more rapid maturity and bloom on this otherwise very slow species.  The growing season on older bulbs can be extended by starting regular irrigation before the normal Fall rains ... for me, I begin to do so on the Autumnal equinox.   Of course, take care not to overwater, especially during heat spells.  Potted specimens can be moved to full sun a month later, IMO.

   Dear all,
Anyone growing Boophone haemanthoides, I need you advice please.
I know that is it a winter growing bulb, but how does it behave during summer?
It grows in the biggest clay pot I had in my hard (about 40 cm wide and deep). Was this a mistake, since it is a young offset (I assume about 3 years old)?
