It was awful. I sympathize with your situation. I was lucky; my physician prescribed a really good insole, and that cleared up the problem. If you haven't tried that, it'd be worth a try before you go for something like shots (yikes). The brand he recommended was Superfeet Copper (they're not made of copper, that's just the color of the insole). They are annoyingly expensive, but they really helped me.
