Bletilla finally flowered

I wonder how much growing conditions effect Bletilla. My neglected
potted plants flower sparsely each year, but frequently get too dry etc.
and maybe the variegated form is not so vigorous. My neighbours (some
still in flower) grow against a low brick wall in full sun, from soon
after sunrise until ~2 pm, and are up to 2 feet tall and some leaves 2`"
wide; twice mine. They may have been there 20 years or more.
Our garden soil is sticky chalky stony with ~20" very irregular rainfall
a year. Very little frost last winter, but varies considerably from year
to year. Drown or drought so far this year.

I am very cheered by Diane’s comment about her Beltilla flowering after
many vegetative years. Mine are have been vegetative since planting,
years ago, though the leaves seem to be larger each year (more surface
area, basically). Now I am optimistic that they may flower sometime in
the future.
