saffron

Dear PBS,

I have grown saffron outdoors in partial shade for well over a decade in Zone 5 Kansas City. My original bulbs came from a commercial saffron business in SE Pennsylvania. If I keep on top of things they provide enough saffron spice that I have not bought any for the decade. Freshly dried is INTENSE.

They have survived temps from below 0F to near 110 F with no extra care. I keep thinking I should dig, divide and spread for increased production, but that IS WORK.

They are trouble free except for picking the precious stamens, drying and storing. Jim W.

Tim, are the saffron corms you will be supplying from Lancaster Co.PA?
If so, I think you should tell everyone about that and also tell about the
saffron cultivation in SE PA. I think it's an amazing story.
Thanks for doing this. I hope I'm lucky and get a couple when they are
offered.
