Usually Bloomeria crocea will flower in its third or fourth year from
seed. It may have a single leaf or several, and yes, they are very long.
Mine are in flower right now, early summer here in Oregon. They are used
to being dried off pretty severely during their summer dormancy. In
nature they tend to grow deep in soils that get hard like a brick in summer.
