Dear All, Having learnt on Sunday that I am now a member of the board, I would like to introduce myself to all of you and thank you for the encouragement I have received in the meantime. Some time ago I was asked by the board if I would be willing to become a member of the board. At the same time I felt honoured and a bit scared.... and accepted. Born in 1956, I am a Pediatrician by profession. After a happy working life I decided to start something new at the age of 60 before it would be too late to do so. I sold everything in Germany and moved to Portugal in summer 2017 to create a new garden in a good climate. I have a deep life long interest in plants of all kinds and have often considered becoming a professional gardener but finally never did. "Now this other half of myself can run free..... but fortunately there is my partner. He will sometimes stop me smilingly....." During my professional life I used to live and work in France, England, Switzerland and then in Germany, many trips led me to interesting people and places (and plants) in the Americas, Asia, Africa and Europe. Especially the years in England have marked me both professionally and plant wise. Very many times I was overwhelmed by the generosity and gardening knowledge of my English friends. Gardening and travelling is somewhat contradictory.... but this way many plants in my collection have a personal history. English is the language of this society but I can offer to correspond with me in German or French as well. Hopefully this may encourage more bulb enthusiasts to come forward. One member has already raised the question if the PBS will set up a European branch of the BX. The board is strongly considering this. At present I cannot say more because many details need to be sorted out. We will keep you updated. Membership with the PBS (from its beginning on) has become an integral part of my gardening life. Countless labels carry the PBS logo, many envelopes of seed went to the various BXes and many personal contacts and friendships in different countries have been built over the years through our society. I hope to be able to return a bit of this to all of you.
