Judy, Whenever I've found ants in my pots, I sprinkle a hefty layer of cinnamon on them. It always drives them away. No particular kind of cinnamon. It's been a long time since this has happened but l also watered it in. Also, I'm not sure we have the same ants here in AZ as you do but perhaps worth a try.
