I grow dierama outside here in NY (20 miles north of NYC) but protect them in winter with a mulch of wood chips. The leaves do get ratty by spring due to freezing temps so I cut them off after I remove the mulch. I grow them in pots for a couple of years (from seed moslty) before setting them outside.
