Thanks for the reply.  I've unsubscribed.  Email was never meant for this much volume by one group and rigid adherence to 30 year old technology versus moving forward is really the hallmark that you all aren't willing to keep up with the times.  I'll get my bulb info elsewhere.

I'm quoting Martin's message in its entirety below because I think he makes some good points (there are others) about the difficulties the PBS list has been having with changing email providers such as Yahoo. What independent and open source mailing lists or software Martin has in mind I'm not sure, but I do know that while I have time to deal with email, having to add such web sites as Facebook, Twitter, etc. is not going to happen. There isn't enough time in a day as it is. We would lose our control and dealing with the fall-out is more than a small organization such as ours can handle. Yes, we do sometimes have inappropriate comments or discussions, but unless they're truly out of control, I ignore, delete and move on. We have a very flexible setup here and people provide lots of information and details that I fear would be lost in the shuffle if we moved to another mode of communication.

people these days use some web-mail services instead of a good mail
program filtering and sorting stuff), I strongly dislike the loss of
control a move to Facebook would bring. The list is under complete
control members of the PBS, and not in the hand of a company following
commercial interests. The loss of yahoo groups has already taught lots
of (horticultural and other) organizations a lesson: any company can
change any policy at any time. If we'd leave the mailing list behind,
I'd vote for a solution as independent and open source as possible -
that would be the opposite of Facebook."""""
